Hydroxyapatite (HAP), also known as hydroxyapatite and basic calcium phosphate, is the natural mineralization of calcium apatite (Ca5 (PO4) 3 (OH)), but it is often written in the form of (Ca10 (PO4) 6 (OH) 2) to highlight that it is composed of two parts: hydroxyl and apatite. OH - can be replaced by fluoride, chloride and carbonate ions to form fluoro apatite or chloro apatite, in which calcium ions can be replaced by a variety of metal ions through ion exchange reaction to form M apatite corresponding to metal ions (M represents metal ions that replace calcium ions).

Hydroxyapatite is the main inorganic component of human and animal bones. It can achieve chemical bond binding with body tissues on the interface. It has a certain solubility in the body, can release harmless ions, can participate in metabolism in the body, can stimulate or induce bone hyperplasia, can promote the repair of defective tissues, and shows biological activity.
